L'Espace à dessiner de Luc Courchesne
L’espace à dessiner / The Drawing Space, une collaboration avec FACT (Liverpool), permet de faire l’expérience de la téléprésence immersive dans un environnement virtuel inédit construit par les participants des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. Nota bene : la communication avec la station à Liverpool est fonctionnelle en date du 19 au matin et l'entrée est libre jusqu'au samedi 21.
Exposition Monotype Pencil to Pixel
Digital Type Wall at Pencil to Pixel exhibition features over one thousand carefully selected fonts out of Monotype's vast collection of 60 000.
In August 2012 Variable was invited by SEA Design to collaborate on Pencil to Pixel exhibition showcasing history of typography as seen by Monotype. The result is an immersive installation composed of several generative animations showcasing different fonts. Every time the animation is run a different font is chosen creating one of 6000 possible compositions.

Paik Times Five

The imagery of Paik Times Five is generated by the viewer’s movement: each person leaves behind them graphic traces in the virtual space. Various media (sourced online) are the raw material for this imagery — the viewer ‘paints’ the space with colors and textures of those videos. The viewer can fully reveal the video by holding his or her arms out and standing still. Any movement however, will distort and break apart the source video. The installation depends on the viewer moving between these two extremes: the passive watching of the media and the active creating of the imagery from this source.
